Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adulthood

Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adulthood (LADA) is a form of autoimmune diabetes that typically presents in adults over 30, characterized by a gradual onset of hyperglycaemia and the presence of autoantibodies against pancreatic beta cells. It is clinically significant as it may be misdiagnosed as type 2 diabetes, leading to inappropriate treatment; patients often require insulin therapy sooner than expected. A key association is the presence of GAD65 antibodies, indicating autoimmune involvement.
