Left ventricular dysfunction refers to impaired contractile or relaxation function of the left ventricle, reducing its ability to pump blood effectively. It is clinically significant as it leads to decreased cardiac output and can cause symptoms of heart failure. A common cause is ischaemic heart disease, which may result in complications like pulmonary oedema.
