Lipoproteins are complexes of lipids and proteins that transport hydrophobic fats, such as cholesterol and triglycerides, through the bloodstream. They are crucial in clinical practice because their levels and composition influence cardiovascular risk and guide management of dyslipidaemias. Elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, a type of lipoprotein, is strongly associated with atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease.
