Luminal agent

A luminal agent is a substance that is introduced into the lumen of a hollow organ, such as the gastrointestinal tract, to enhance imaging or therapeutic effects. These agents are crucial in clinical practice for procedures like endoscopy or radiological imaging, as they improve the visibility of structures and help in diagnosing conditions. An example of a luminal agent is barium sulfate, commonly used in barium swallow studies to assess swallowing disorders.
