« Back to Glossary Index

Plantaris rupture is the tearing of the plantaris tendon, a thin, vestigial structure in the posterior lower leg that assists weakly in plantarflexion of the foot. Clinically, it can mimic more serious calf injuries such as Achilles tendon rupture, making accurate diagnosis important to guide appropriate management and avoid unnecessary interventions. It is commonly associated with sudden calf pain during activities involving rapid acceleration or jumping.
