« Back to Glossary Index

The posterior ankle refers to the back region of the ankle joint, encompassing structures such as the Achilles tendon, posterior talus, and surrounding soft tissues. Clinically, this area is important because it is a common site of injury and pathology affecting mobility and weight-bearing, including tendonitis and bursitis. A key complication associated with the posterior ankle is Achilles tendon rupture, which can severely impair gait and requires prompt diagnosis and management.
