A prominent U wave is an electrocardiographic finding characterized by a distinct, upright wave following the T wave, often indicating delayed repolarization of the ventricles. Clinically, it is significant as it may suggest electrolyte imbalances, particularly hypokalemia, or other conditions such as bradycardia and certain cardiomyopathies. Recognising prominent U waves is crucial, as they can precede life-threatening arrhythmias if underlying causes are not addressed.
