PTH-like peptide is a protein that mimics parathyroid hormone’s effects by binding to PTH receptors, causing increased calcium release from bone and renal calcium reabsorption. It is clinically important as a mediator of humoral hypercalcaemia of malignancy, commonly secreted by squamous cell carcinomas, leading to elevated serum calcium and associated complications like nephrolithiasis and neurocognitive symptoms.
