Gloassary term:

Romana’s sign

Romana's sign is the presence of unilateral conjunctival swelling and edema of the eyelids, typically associated with infection by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, which causes Chagas disease. Its clinical significance lies in its role as an early indicator of acute Chagas disease, particularly in endemic regions, aiding in prompt diagnosis and management. A key association is the potential for cardiac complications, including arrhythmias and heart failure, if left untreated.
