Scapholunate ligament injury is a tear or rupture of the ligament connecting the scaphoid and lunate bones in the wrist, leading to instability between these carpal bones. It is clinically significant because it can cause wrist pain, reduced grip strength, and progressive carpal instability if untreated. A common complication is the development of scapholunate advanced collapse (SLAC) wrist, a form of osteoarthritis resulting from chronic instability.
