Sensory neuropathy

Sensory neuropathy is a disorder affecting the sensory nerves, leading to diminished or altered sensation, often manifesting as numbness, tingling, or pain, particularly in the extremities. It is clinically significant as it can impair a patient's ability to perceive injuries or infections, increasing the risk of complications such as ulcers or falls. A common association is diabetes mellitus, where prolonged hyperglycaemia can damage peripheral nerves, resulting in diabetic neuropathy.
