Triglycerides are esters formed from glycerol and three fatty acid chains, serving as the primary form of stored fat in the body and a major source of energy. Clinically, elevated triglyceride levels are important markers of metabolic health and contribute to the assessment of cardiovascular risk. High triglycerides are commonly associated with conditions such as pancreatitis and are often seen in metabolic syndrome.
