Ulcerative colitis

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterised by inflammation and ulceration of the colonic mucosa, typically beginning in the rectum and extending proximally. It is clinically significant due to its potential to cause severe complications, including colorectal cancer, and can significantly impact a patient's quality of life. A key association is the increased risk of extraintestinal manifestations, such as arthritis or skin lesions.
