Cardiomyocytes are specialised muscle cells that make up the myocardium, responsible for the contractile function of the heart. Their ability to generate and conduct electrical impulses ensures coordinated heartbeats essential for effective blood circulation. Damage to cardiomyocytes, such as during a myocardial infarction, impairs cardiac function and can lead to heart failure.
