HLA-B27 is a specific human leukocyte antigen class I molecule involved in presenting intracellular peptides to immune cells, influencing immune response. Clinically, its presence is strongly associated with increased risk of autoimmune conditions, notably ankylosing spondylitis, aiding diagnosis and guiding management. Its detection helps identify predisposition to spondyloarthropathies.
