Primary hyperparathyroidism is a disorder characterised by excessive secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH) due to autonomous parathyroid gland hyperfunction, leading to hypercalcaemia. It is clinically important as it causes bone resorption, kidney stones, and neuropsychiatric symptoms. A key complication is osteoporosis, increasing fracture risk.
