Parathyroid gland

The parathyroid glands are small endocrine glands located behind the thyroid, responsible for regulating calcium and phosphate balance through parathyroid hormone secretion. Clinically, they are crucial in maintaining serum calcium levels, impacting neuromuscular and bone function. Dysfunction can cause hyperparathyroidism, leading to hypercalcaemia and related complications.
