Drug overdose

A drug overdose occurs when an individual ingests a quantity of a medication or substance that exceeds the therapeutic dose, leading to toxic effects. This condition is critical in clinical practice as it can result in severe physiological disturbances, organ damage, or death, necessitating prompt recognition and intervention. For example, opioid overdose can cause respiratory depression, requiring immediate administration of naloxone to reverse the effects.
