Fibrin is a fibrous protein formed from fibrinogen during the coagulation cascade, playing a crucial role in blood clot formation and wound healing. It provides a scaffold for platelets and other cells, stabilising the clot and facilitating tissue repair. Clinically, abnormal fibrin formation can lead to complications such as thrombosis, where excessive clotting can obstruct blood vessels, resulting in conditions like deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism.
