« Back to Glossary Index

Cushing’s disease is a condition caused by an adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-secreting pituitary adenoma, leading to excessive cortisol production by the adrenal glands. It is clinically important because prolonged cortisol excess results in characteristic symptoms such as central obesity, hypertension, and glucose intolerance, requiring timely diagnosis and management to prevent morbidity. A key complication is increased cardiovascular risk due to sustained hypertension and metabolic disturbances.
