Disease-Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs [DMARDs]

DMARDs (disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs) are a class of medications that slow or halt the progression of inflammatory autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, by targeting underlying immune mechanisms rather than just relieving symptoms. They are crucial for preventing joint damage and disability. Methotrexate is a commonly used DMARD, but monitoring for liver toxicity is essential.
