Hypertension is a chronic condition characterised by persistently elevated arterial blood pressure, typically defined as a systolic pressure above 140 mmHg or diastolic pressure above 90 mmHg. It is clinically important because sustained high blood pressure increases the risk of cardiovascular events and organ damage. A key complication of hypertension is its strong association with stroke, making early detection and management critical.
