Hypertensive Emergency

A hypertensive emergency is a severe elevation in blood pressure, typically defined as systolic blood pressure ≥180 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥120 mmHg, accompanied by acute end-organ damage. It is critical in clinical practice due to the risk of life-threatening complications such as stroke, myocardial infarction, or acute renal failure, necessitating immediate intervention. Common associations include chronic hypertension and non-adherence to antihypertensive therapy.
