Valvular disease refers to any dysfunction or abnormality of one or more of the heart valves, resulting in impaired blood flow through the heart chambers. It is clinically important because it can lead to heart failure, arrhythmias, or thromboembolic events if left untreated. A common example is aortic stenosis, which can cause left ventricular hypertrophy and progressive cardiac symptoms.
