Striae are linear dermal scars caused by rapid stretching of the skin, leading to dermal collagen and elastin disruption. Clinically, they indicate underlying conditions affecting skin integrity or systemic factors like hormonal imbalances. A key association is Cushing’s syndrome, where striae appear wide and purple due to excess cortisol weakening connective tissue.
