Muscle cramps are sudden, involuntary, and painful contractions of skeletal muscle fibres, often transient but intense. Clinically, they matter as they can indicate electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, or neuromuscular disorders, impacting patient comfort and function. A common association is nocturnal leg cramps, frequently seen in older adults or during pregnancy.
