Oxygen therapy

Oxygen therapy is the controlled administration of supplemental oxygen to increase arterial oxygen tension in patients with hypoxaemia or respiratory distress. It is crucial for preventing tissue hypoxia and organ dysfunction in conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or acute respiratory failure. Excessive oxygen can cause hypercapnia or oxygen toxicity, requiring careful monitoring.
