Adrenal insufficiency

Adrenal insufficiency is a condition characterised by inadequate production of adrenal hormones, primarily cortisol, due to dysfunction of the adrenal glands or pituitary gland. It is clinically significant as it can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, hypotension, and electrolyte imbalances, which may result in adrenal crisis if untreated. A key association is autoimmune adrenalitis, commonly seen in Addison's disease, where the body's immune system attacks adrenal tissue.
