Bisphosphonates

Bisphosphonates are synthetic analogues of pyrophosphate that inhibit osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, thereby increasing bone mineral density. They are clinically important in treating osteoporosis, Paget’s disease, and bone metastases to reduce fracture risk and bone pain. A key complication is osteonecrosis of the jaw, especially after dental procedures.
