Deep vein thrombosis

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, most commonly in the legs, which can obstruct blood flow and lead to swelling, pain, and redness. It is clinically significant because it can result in serious complications, such as pulmonary embolism, where the clot dislodges and travels to the lungs, potentially causing respiratory distress or death. Risk factors include prolonged immobility, surgery, and certain medical conditions.
