Waist circumference is the measurement around the narrowest part of the abdomen, typically just above the iliac crest. It is a practical indicator of central adiposity, reflecting visceral fat accumulation linked to metabolic risk. Clinically, increased waist circumference is strongly associated with higher risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
