Neutrophils

Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell essential for innate immunity, responsible for rapid response and phagocytosis of pathogens, particularly bacteria. They play a critical role in controlling infections and mediating inflammation, making their count and function vital indicators in diagnosing and managing infectious and inflammatory conditions. Neutropenia, a low neutrophil count, significantly increases the risk of severe bacterial infections and is a common complication in chemotherapy patients.
