Pulmonary embolism

Pulmonary embolism is the sudden blockage of a pulmonary artery by a thrombus, usually originating from deep veins in the legs. It is a critical condition causing impaired gas exchange and right heart strain, often presenting with dyspnoea and chest pain. Prompt diagnosis and treatment are vital to prevent complications like pulmonary infarction or cardiovascular collapse.
