Sepsis

Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection, leading to systemic inflammation and potential multi-organ failure. It is critical in clinical practice due to its high morbidity and mortality rates, necessitating prompt recognition and treatment. A key complication of sepsis is septic shock, characterised by persistent hypotension despite adequate fluid resuscitation, which significantly increases the risk of death.
