Sleep Apnoea

Sleep apnoea is a sleep disorder characterised by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep, often due to airway obstruction (obstructive sleep apnoea) or central nervous system dysfunction (central sleep apnoea). It is clinically significant as it can lead to excessive daytime sleepiness, cardiovascular complications, and impaired cognitive function. A key association is obesity, which increases the risk of obstructive sleep apnoea due to fatty tissue around the neck.
