C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute-phase protein produced by the liver in response to inflammation, serving as a sensitive biomarker of systemic inflammatory activity. Clinically, CRP levels guide diagnosis and monitoring of infections, autoimmune diseases, and tissue injury. Elevated CRP is strongly associated with bacterial infections and can indicate complications such as sepsis.
