Cardiac tamponade is a life-threatening condition where fluid accumulation in the pericardial sac compresses the heart, impairing ventricular filling and reducing cardiac output. Prompt recognition and intervention are critical to prevent hemodynamic collapse and death. It is commonly associated with trauma, malignancy, or pericarditis and can lead to obstructive shock if untreated.
