Necrosis is the irreversible death of cells or tissue due to injury, infection, or inadequate blood supply, resulting in loss of membrane integrity and uncontrolled enzymatic digestion. It is clinically important because it often triggers inflammation and can lead to tissue dysfunction or systemic complications. A common example is myocardial infarction, where necrosis of heart muscle impairs cardiac function.
