Prematurity refers to birth occurring before 37 completed weeks of gestation, resulting in incomplete fetal development. Clinically, it is crucial due to increased risks of respiratory distress, infection, and long-term neurodevelopmental impairments. A key complication is bronchopulmonary dysplasia, a chronic lung disease common in very preterm infants.
