The tricuspid valve is a three-leaflet atrioventricular valve located between the right atrium and right ventricle, regulating unidirectional blood flow during the cardiac cycle. It is essential for maintaining efficient right heart function and preventing backflow of blood, which can compromise pulmonary circulation. Dysfunction of the tricuspid valve, such as tricuspid regurgitation, is commonly associated with right heart failure and can result from conditions like pulmonary hypertension or infective endocarditis.
