Retinopathy

Retinopathy refers to damage to the retina, often resulting from underlying systemic conditions, particularly diabetes or hypertension. It is clinically significant as it can lead to vision impairment or blindness if not detected and managed early, highlighting the importance of regular eye examinations in at-risk populations. Diabetic retinopathy is a common example, where prolonged high blood sugar levels cause retinal blood vessel changes, leading to potential complications like macular edema.
