Parietal refers to structures related to the walls of a body cavity or the outer layer of an organ, distinct from visceral components that cover internal organs. Understanding parietal anatomy is crucial in clinical practice for accurately localising pain, performing surgical approaches, and interpreting imaging. For example, parietal pleura inflammation causes sharp, well-localised chest pain, differentiating it from visceral pleura involvement.
