Peripheral neuropathy is a disorder resulting from damage to the peripheral nerves, causing sensory, motor, or autonomic dysfunction. It matters clinically because it can impair sensation and movement, leading to pain, weakness, and increased risk of injury. A common association is diabetes mellitus, where chronic high blood sugar causes progressive nerve damage and complications such as foot ulcers.
