Liver function tests (LFTs) are a panel of blood assays measuring enzymes, proteins, and substances reflecting hepatic function and injury, including ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin, and albumin. They are essential for diagnosing liver diseases, monitoring progression, and guiding treatment. Elevated ALT and AST often indicate hepatocellular damage, as seen in viral hepatitis.
