Cirrhosis

Cirrhosis is a progressive liver disease characterised by the replacement of healthy liver tissue with scar tissue, leading to impaired liver function and architecture. It is clinically significant as it can result in complications such as portal hypertension, liver failure, and hepatocellular carcinoma, necessitating careful monitoring and management. A common cause of cirrhosis is chronic alcohol abuse, highlighting the importance of early intervention and lifestyle modification in at-risk populations.
